What Are The Causes Of Workpiece Deformation During Machining

Feb 19, 2022

1. Clamping is too tight. During precision machining, the workpiece often needs to be clamped with auxiliary tools to avoid vibration during machining, but sometimes the workpiece is deformed under excessive pressure due to improper selection of clamping point position. Therefore, when clamping again, we should select the clamping point according to the position of the support point of the workpiece. At this time, the clamping force should be adjusted according to the position of the clamping point, and the contact area between the fixture and the workpiece should be increased as much as possible.

2. Tool cutting. Due to the insufficient rigidity of the workpiece or cutting tool and the influence of cutting force, the workpiece is thick at the top and thin at the bottom, which is called the tool yield phenomenon. The way to deal with this phenomenon is to improve the sharpness of the cutting edge and reduce the friction resistance between the cutting edge and the workpiece.

3. Material structure. Since the rigidity and stability of the workpiece are relative, and the amount of deformation is also relative to the complexity of structural shape and length, width and thickness, we should pay attention to the influence of these factors on the workpiece pair in the design and processing, so as to reduce the probability of deformation. The designer should pay attention to the assumption that the structure of the workpiece is within a reasonable range, and the material selection should also follow the relevant process.
